Burjo-Yola

Last Saturday night, I went to Burjo near my boarding house and it was my first time there. What is Burjo? Burjo is a restaurant with a simple menu, you can find noodles, fried rice, coffee, tea, and rice with all sorts of side-dishes. What makes Burjo different? What made makes them different is the price, Burjo’s price is cheap and just right for a student’s pocket, so that’s why I go there.
In burjo, I met a young lady who was sitting there alone waited her meal. I asked her whether I could sit beside her and she answered yes. I made a short chit-chat with her and what I got was, her name was Mbak Luthfi, she is a student from Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan, she is in the same semester with me and her boarding house is near with mine.
We continued our conversation while we were eating, and she told me that she often goes to Burjo with her friends sometimes. She chose burjo because burjo it is near her boarding house and also because it’s cheap, so she could save some of her money for other important things.
She said that as a student that far from home, with parents, we have to control our spending to eat, to photocopy, to buy a stationery, to pay for things, and also to save money. At first, it was really hard because when she was at home, she could eat, ask, and do anything she wanted to do, but now she needed to get approval for anything first before she did it, and I am in full accord with her.

Rujak Ice Cream-Pingkan

Last week I interviewed the owner’s daughter of Rujak Ice Cream, a famous mixed fruit with sweet-spicy sauce from Indonesia. Rujak was famous since long ago and then has been get innovation by giving its ice cream in the top. Rujak that has a spicy taste from chili sauce and sweet from the brown sugar that mixed with the chili sauce then mixed with the sweet-frozen ice cream. It is actually quite unique because we mix very different tastes in the same pot and it will mix and melted in mouth when we eat it together. This Rujak Ice Cream’s vendor sell it by cart and it is sit by the way in Kentungan, near area 403, so we can see the scenery in front of its place. It is also quite strategic to sell its rujak ice cream in that area because it is really looked from the road and it is located in quite crowd road.

This business has been built since 2007 and the owner already had two carts to sell it in different place. The idea of built that rujak ice cream business is actually made by the owner’s cousin. He already sold rujak ice cream and then invited him to join its business. Because of his cousin’s support, then since 2007 he can independently built the same business that got its success now. Last year, he had some employee who helped him to make, sell and serve it. Then, because of some incidents that make him don’t trust in his employee anymore, he never looked for someone to be his employee until today. He said that it is better to just sell it by himself to prevent bad things might be happen again.

FOODCOURT LIS (Lembaga Indonesia Spanyol) – Meita

Food Court LIS is an abbreviation of the Spanish and Indonesian institutions. This place does not only provide the Spanish food, it also provide foods from 6 different countries, which are Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, Germany and Middle East. The owner is an old friend of my, her name is Sheila Cascales, she is half Spanish and half Indonesian. The history of this place that I heard from her, at first Sheila and her mother started to open a Spanish language course, when they bought the place. The building is very spacious, in 2011 she tried to started a food business and take advantage of it. She use the building to start her business and offer friends who have food business to the rent it too.aaed720c8c365055bffb731fd3d29701

So, when I came to her place, I was so confused because they are offered a lot of delicious food and I wanted to try all. I decided to ordered Spanish food like Bocadillo and Churros. Bocadillo almost like sandwich but it is wrap from aluminium foil, the difference is on the bread. It shaped like a baguette but harder if we eat, in the inside exactly same as sandwich like meat, cucumber, lettuce, mozarela cheese, sauces and mayonnaise as well. Bocadillo have many kinds too, I choosed the monte cristo because I do not really like vegetables. Monte cristo contents only cheese and meat, I did not get photographed Bocadillo, so I took a picture from google as reference.

I also ordered Churros with ice cream chocolate, Ramen, Frudge Brownie, and Cappucino. IMG_20140605_221703

The presentation are very interesting and cute especially for Churros, this food is actually served with hot chocolate but my friend made another variant so customers do not feel bored. The price are comparable with the quality of foods and I was very satisfied because this Spanish meals cooked by my friend except for Ramen noodles. My friend said, ” Although I have employees but I am trying to present this foods with my own because there is a secret recipe that I have to kept. This Spanish food recipe I got from my mother.”

Soto Ayam Bonjok – Amalia

Actually when I first read about the assignment, I straightly think about a place in my hometown Purwokerto that I’ve ever visited. Usually when people heard about Banyumas or Purwokerto, they will think about Soto Sokaraja or Mendoan. But this time, I recommend you a food place that you must try when you come to Purwokerto. It is called Soto Ayam Bonjok.

Soto Bonjok has been established in 1997 in Bonjok, Sokawera village, Somagede. That is why it is called Soto Bonjok because it is placed in grumbul Bonjok. The owner is Pak Nalim. It takes an hour from Purwokerto. Actually it is my father’s favorite place to eat soto and he has visited there for several times. But it was my very first time. He said if you want to eat Soto Bonjok, you have to in a hungry condition because it will taste much more delicious. When my father took me and family to went there, we surely in a very hungry condition that we could not stand it.

Actually Soto Ayam Bonjok is somewhat different from Soto Jogja. Soto Bonjok use ketupat as the main ingredient and kerupuk for the ingredient. But the other ingredients are the same. If usually soto in jogja use chili sauce to make the soto taste hot, Soto Bonjok use mixed peanut and chili for the sauce. It will make the soto taste more delicious. We also can ask for extra chicken like if you ask for extra chicken wings then a bowl of chicken wings will come to your table. For a bowl of Soto Bonjok, you can pay Rp. 11.000. I think it is worthy enough after I hold my hunger for an hour.

The place for Soto Bonjok is quiet old. It is an old house with the wood post. The windows are made from wood and so do the door. It also use long chairs and table that usually used by rural people. We can see a rice field in front of it. It has a quiet large yard beside. My father said that in the past, the yard was used for a place for chicken and the chickens that made for Soto also from the yard. But now it is just an usual yard.

Soto Bonjok is opened at 10 AM and closed at 4.00 PM or until sold out. It sold out at 1.00 PM if there are many customers came. When I went to there, It sold out at 1.00 PM and lucky me that I came there earlier than the third customer after me because they run out of the soto.

#HESTEKKOPI

I went to Hestekkopi with my friend. This is my very first time to come there.  Hestekkopi located on Jalan Kaliurang KM 5,5 Sleman, Jogjakarta, right in front of Natasha Skin Care. There are so many beverages and food. Their prices are also friendly.

In Hestekkopi, we bought a bowl of green chicken noodle, deep blue sea (beverage), Archipelago coffee, and also cheese pie. For me personally, I love the cheese pie. But I don’t think it is the right name for it. I don’t taste any cheese inside it. I taste cinnamon instead of cheese. But however, I really love it. I promise I will go there again someday just to enjoy this snack. For the beverages, I love my deep blue sea. Its color is tosca, with mango syrup in the bottom. The mango syrup gives sour taste, and it mixed well with the blue soda. For archipelago coffee, its good, but this is not my favourite coffee. And for the last, the green chicken noodle is the worst. I don’t think it is worth with the price. There’s no taste inside it, I think.

But at least, I will recommend it to everyone. The taste of the foods are good, and I think you’re not going to waste your money there.
